This weekend we celebrated our first anniversary as a married couple and 10 total years together! We decided to spend our weekend on the beach and although it wasn’t quite how we imagined it – we had fun and crazy times always make for good memories anyway.
We stayed at the sea mist resort which I booked through an Airbnb. I’ve had really good experiences in the past with Airbnb’s but this one was kind of terrible. The pictures looked a lot different than the listing and it was in a bad area. If I would have looked it up on trip advisor, I would have seen that it only had 2 stars and not have booked it. Its rating on Airbnb was 5 stars which I later found out was because they ask you to leave a 5 star review. As We were leaving I got an email asking me to leave them 5 starts to help their profile.
After we arrived we got ready for the night and headed over to target to buy two towels to shower with and a blanket to sleep with (just some indication of the room quality) and started our night. If everything wasn’t booked for Mother’s Day we may have moved to a different hotel…. But we decided to make the best of it.
On to the good stuff! We went over to Broadway at the Beach where we walked through the shops and enjoyed the sunset. We were both starving and wanted seafood so we went to Joe’s Crab shack.
I would highly recommend! We got an appetizer sampler and a steam pot to share. It was SO good I’m drooling thinking about it. When we finished dinner it was late so we headed back to our Airbnb. We had planned on walking on the beach but elected to stay in our room. Andy and I always have fun together so we had a few drinks and reminisced about where we were one year ago.
The next morning we spent the day on the beach. The area of the beach we were on didn’t allow for much relaxing. We spent the first half of our day on the beach before heading in to shower and get ready for our dinner plans. We had reservations at the Gulfstream Café about 30 minutes from our hotel in Garden City, SC. The restaurant sits right on the marsh and we were able to watch the sun set.
Fortunately we were given a seat right on the deck with a perfect view. The weather was so breezy and beautiful and It was so romantic.
We had purchased champagne from our wedding day and a small cake from publix (the same as our wedding cake) for dessert. That night I googled questions for couples and we ate cake and drank champagne and answered silly questions – You can find the list we used here.
You guys- we had so much fun. We laughed so much and we talked for hours. We may have been in a gross hotel without the best view but we had good company, drinks and cake.
It’s crazy how fast a year went by. So Cliché- but time really does fly when you’re having fun!
We are planning some more fun trips for this year! Where should we visit next?
